Brazil Classic

18 days, including travel days
Brazil is too large to be captured by a single landscape. Rio de Janeiro’s mountainous coast is followed by the rivers of the Amazon and then Bahia, where Salvador and the Atlantic shoreline have an entirely different character.
Five nights in Rio de Janeiro allow time for both the classic excursions and several days closer to everyday city life. One guided day covers Corcovado and Sugarloaf, while the beachfront, Santa Teresa, Lagoa and the central neighbourhoods receive more time during the rest of the stay. One day is left entirely without fixed excursions.

After Rio, fly north to Manaus, where the city soon gives way to river and rainforest. One night in Manaus is followed by three nights at an Amazon lodge. There is time for boat trips on smaller waterways, walks with a local guide and excursions either early in the morning or after dark. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. Guides work with sound, tracks, weather and water levels and choose activities according to the conditions at the time.

Salvador reveals a Brazil shaped by Atlantic trade, Portuguese colonial rule and, above all, the Afro-Brazilian heritage that influences religion, music, food and everyday life. Pelourinho’s colourful buildings are the most visible layer, but good guiding places the city’s history within a much wider context.

The final days are spent in Praia do Forte. The village is small enough to explore on foot and the sea is always close. Fewer fixed excursions work better here than fully scheduled days. Projeto Tamar, natural pools at the right tide and the beaches can fill parts of the stay, while the rest is left free.

The long distances require several flights, but the stays are long enough to provide proper time in Rio, the Amazon and Bahia.

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro’s drama comes from its geography. Granite mountains rise between the sea, bays and dense urban areas, forcing the city to grow in distinct pockets connected by tunnels, coastal roads and passages between the hills. The grand landscape is therefore never far from daily life: people jog around Lagoa, shop after work in Botafogo, play football on the beach and ride buses through tunnels that suddenly open towards the Atlantic.

Manaus and the Amazon

The Amazon quickly changes your sense of distance. From a boat, the Rio Negro can resemble an inland sea, with forest and water reaching the horizon. Small tributaries open narrow passages into flooded forest, while larger vessels disappear towards towns and communities accessible only from the river. Manaus, its port and markets, riverside settlements, lodges and forest all belong to the same river world.

Salvador

Salvador was founded in 1549 as Portugal’s first planned capital in Brazil and retained that role until 1763. Its location was strategic: the escarpment provided defence and a commanding view, while the sheltered Baía de Todos os Santos created an important Atlantic trading port. The original division between the administrative and religious Cidade Alta and the port district of Cidade Baixa still exists and explains much of how the city looks and functions today.

Praia do Forte

Praia do Forte lies on Bahia’s north coast, where long beaches are broken by reefs, lagoons, river mouths and remnants of Atlantic rainforest. The town began as a small fishing community and has developed into a well-organised beach destination that still retains a clear village atmosphere. The old centre is pedestrian-friendly, buildings remain low and restaurants, pousadas and shops cluster around Alameda do Sol and the smaller streets leading down towards the sea.

The final price depends on travel dates, departure point, flight availability, hotel standard, room type and number of travellers. International flights are included according to the itinerary and price level stated in the quotation. Exact inclusions and price are always confirmed in a non-binding quotation.

Rio and Salvador are combined with well-located hotels, the Amazon with a nature lodge and Praia do Forte with a comfortable hotel or pousada by the coast. Hotels are chosen primarily for location and character rather than star rating alone. Final names are specified in the quotation.

  • Route: several domestic flights, followed by a road transfer between Salvador and Praia do Forte
  • Altitude: no high-altitude destinations
  • Free time: both Rio and Praia do Forte include plenty of time without fixed activities

Salvador and Praia do Forte provide two very different final settings in Bahia. Salvador adds history, city life and culture, while Praia do Forte brings sea, swimming and a slower pace during the final days of the journey.
