Two full jaguar days followed by safari, horse riding, canoeing and nature trails in two other areas
This variant travels through three different parts of the northern Pantanal, creating strong contrasts between river safari, open wetlands, woodland and lodge activities.
The journey begins with three nights in the Porto Jofre area and two full days on the rivers. Continue north to Ueso Lodge or similar for horse riding, canoeing, an observation tower and night safari.
The final night is at Pousada Piuval or similar, adding another landscape and a final morning safari before returning to Cuiabá.
Day 1
After collection at Cuiabá airport or your hotel, meet your English-speaking nature guide and travel via Poconé towards the Pantanal.
Continue along the full length of the Transpantaneira. The guide stops for wildlife and landscapes, turning the transfer into a first safari.
Arrive at Jaguar Bay Lodge or similar in the Porto Jofre area. Check in, dinner and overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast, set out by boat on the rivers around Porto Jofre. Your guide and boat driver search for jaguars along riverbanks, sandbanks and side channels.
Giant otters, capybaras, caimans, monkeys and abundant birdlife are also found in the area.
Lunch and a rest at the lodge divide the day’s boat trips. The afternoon safari continues until sunset.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Another full day is devoted to jaguar and giant otter safari. Two days on the water allow different parts of the river system to be explored and recent sightings to be followed.
The route is adapted to weather, water levels and wildlife movements.
Lunch and a rest at the lodge are followed by afternoon safari until dusk.
Dinner and a final overnight in Porto Jofre.
Day 4
After breakfast, check out and leave Porto Jofre. The journey north along the Transpantaneira doubles as a long wildlife safari.
Check in at Ueso Lodge or similar on arrival.
In the afternoon, take a nature walk and visit an observation tower.
Dinner, night safari and overnight.
Day 5
The day begins at approximately 05:00 with a dawn activity, when birdlife is intense and some nocturnal animals may still be moving.
After breakfast, there is an opportunity for a gentle horse ride through the lodge grounds.
After lunch, take a wildlife drive along the Transpantaneira to Rio Claro, where a canoe trip is made when water levels allow.
The return journey is combined with a night safari. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6
After an early morning safari and breakfast, check out.
Continue along the Transpantaneira to Pousada Piuval or similar, stopping for wildlife and photography.
After lunch, take a nature trail or another land-based activity around the lodge.
Dinner, night safari and overnight.
Day 7
The final day begins with a dawn safari. After breakfast, take another activity in the lodge’s natural area depending on weather and wildlife.
Lunch, check-out and return along the Transpantaneira via Poconé.

Jaguar Bay Lodge or similar is in the Porto Jofre area, close to the rivers used for boat safaris. The final lodge is confirmed subject to availability, with location and access to the safari area given priority.

Mostly easy
The journey is mostly easy physically, with much of the wildlife viewing from boat or safari vehicle.
Short nature walks, horse riding, canoeing and early-morning activities may occur. Horse riding and more physical activities are normally optional and can be replaced with a gentler arrangement when conditions allow.
Activities are adapted to weather, water levels, road conditions and recent wildlife sightings. The order may therefore change without changing the overall experience.
Jaguars and other wildlife roam freely and sightings can never be guaranteed. Boat safaris take place in the Porto Jofre area, where chances are normally highest during the dry season.
The stated lodges are preferred options and may be replaced by similar accommodation with comparable location, standard and access to activities.
The programme can be booked as a group departure or private tour. Private arrangements normally require at least two travellers.
