Three full days on the rivers combined with Ueso and Pouso Alegre along the Transpantaneira
This variant gives you three full days of jaguar and giant otter safari while retaining a clear introduction and finale along the Transpantaneira.
The journey begins at Ueso Lodge or similar with a nature trail, observation tower, night safari, sunrise activity and horse riding. This is followed by four nights in the Porto Jofre area and three complete days on the rivers.
The final night is spent at Pouso Alegre Lodge or similar, where land-based safari and an early-morning activity round off the journey before the return to Cuiabá.
Day 1
After collection at Cuiabá airport or your hotel, meet your English-speaking nature guide and travel via Poconé towards the Pantanal.
Several stops are made along the Transpantaneira for wildlife and photography.
Check in at Ueso Lodge or similar. In the afternoon, take a nature walk and visit the observation tower.
Dinner, night safari and overnight.
Day 2
The day begins at approximately 05:00 with a dawn activity.
After breakfast, there is an opportunity for horse riding around the lodge.
Lunch and check-out, then continue south along the Transpantaneira to Porto Jofre, stopping for wildlife along the way.
Check in at Jaguar Bay Lodge or similar, followed by dinner and overnight.
Day 3
After breakfast, set out by boat on the rivers around Porto Jofre.
Your guide and boat driver search for jaguars along riverbanks, sandbanks and side channels. Giant otters, capybaras, caimans and rich birdlife are also regularly encountered.
Lunch and a rest at the lodge are followed by an afternoon safari until sunset.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Another full day is devoted to jaguar and giant otter safari.
The route is adapted to recent sightings, weather and water levels. The extra time makes it possible to search several parts of the river system.
Lunch and a rest at the lodge are followed by safari until dusk.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 5
The third full day on the water provides the journey’s best opportunity for repeated and longer sightings.
The guide chooses the route using current information about jaguar movements and aims for variety between open river stretches and smaller side channels.
Lunch and a rest at the lodge are followed by afternoon safari until sunset.
Dinner and a final overnight in Porto Jofre.
Day 6
After breakfast, check out and begin the journey north along the Transpantaneira.
The drive doubles as a wildlife safari, with stops when animals are spotted.
Check in at Pouso Alegre Lodge or similar and have lunch. An afternoon safari follows in the lodge’s natural area.
Dinner, night safari and overnight.
Day 7
The final day begins at approximately 05:00 with a dawn safari.
After breakfast, continue with a land-based activity around the lodge and a visit to an observation tower when conditions allow.
Lunch, check-out and return via Poconé to Cuiabá airport or your hotel.
Ueso Lodge or similar serves as a base along the Transpantaneira for nature walks, observation tower visits, horse riding, canoeing and safari around the lodge.
Rooms normally have air conditioning and a private bathroom with hot water. The lodge has a restaurant, common areas and locally based staff.
Jaguar Bay Lodge or similar is in the Porto Jofre area, close to the rivers used for boat safaris. The final lodge is confirmed subject to availability, with location and access to the safari area given priority.
Accommodation is comfortable but nature-focused, normally with air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, a restaurant and common areas for resting between boat trips.
Pouso Alegre Lodge or similar lies in the northern section of the Transpantaneira and is surrounded by a large private natural area. Land-based safaris, early-morning activities, walks and visits to viewpoints are arranged here.
Accommodation is simple but comfortable, normally with air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, a restaurant and common areas.
Mostly easy
The journey is mostly easy physically, with much of the wildlife viewing from boat or safari vehicle.
Short nature walks, horse riding, canoeing and early-morning activities may occur. Horse riding and more physical activities are normally optional and can be replaced with a gentler arrangement when conditions allow.
Activities are adapted to weather, water levels, road conditions and recent wildlife sightings. The order may therefore change without changing the overall experience.
Jaguars and other wildlife roam freely and sightings can never be guaranteed. Boat safaris take place in the Porto Jofre area, where chances are normally highest during the dry season.
The stated lodges are preferred options and may be replaced by similar accommodation with comparable location, standard and access to activities.
The programme can be booked as a group departure or private tour. Private arrangements normally require at least two travellers.
