Tariri Amazon Lodge – 4 days

A personal introduction to the Rio Negro’s rainforest, lakes and river life

4 days / 3 nights Easy to moderate Lago Acajatuba beside the Rio Negro

Tariri suits travellers looking for a small and personal alternative to the Amazon’s larger lodges. Four days allow time for the main nature experiences without making the journey too long.

The lodge lies beside Lago Acajatuba in the Rio Negro area, about 70 kilometres from Manaus. The journey crosses rural countryside and ends by boat, allowing the pace of the city to give way gradually to forest, water and bird calls.

The programme combines motorboat trips, canoeing, a guided forest walk and recreational fishing with an evening excursion and a meeting with people living along the rivers. Comfort is rustic: cabins have private bathrooms and fans, but normally no air conditioning or reliable connection.

Day by day

Day 1

Manaus to Lago Acajatuba

You are collected at your Manaus hotel or airport within the confirmed transfer window. Travel west towards the Iranduba area and continue by boat to Tariri Amazon Lodge.

After welcome and check-in, lunch or a lighter meal is served depending on arrival time. In the afternoon, take a first motorboat excursion on the Rio Negro and surrounding lakes.

The trip introduces the blackwater environment, flooded forest and life along the rivers.

Day 2

Forest walk, fishing and the Amazon after dark

After breakfast, follow a local guide on a forest walk. The pace is adapted to the group and the guide discusses trees, insects, ecological relationships and traditional plant knowledge.

After lunch and a rest, try piranha or recreational fishing from a boat. The environment and birdlife are as much a part of the activity as the fishing itself.

After dark, head out again to look for caimans and other nocturnal wildlife.

Day 3

A quiet morning and an encounter with riverside life

The morning remains flexible for a short nature activity, paddling or time at the lodge. The exact plan depends on water level, weather and which activities have already been completed.

After lunch, visit a local community or family in the area and learn about everyday life, fishing, cultivation, manioc and regional fruits.

The visit is an exchange and an opportunity to learn, rather than a staged performance.

Day 4

Canoeing on Lago Acajatuba and return to Manaus

Begin the day with a quiet canoe trip on Lago Acajatuba. Paddling makes it possible to approach shoreline vegetation and listen for birds without an engine.

After breakfast or lunch, depending on the transfer schedule, leave the lodge and return to Manaus by boat and road.

Drop-off is at the agreed hotel or airport. Any flight on the same day must be checked before the programme is confirmed.

Accommodation and facilities

Tariri Amazon Lodge

3 nights · Lago Acajatuba beside the Rio Negro, near the Anavilhanas area

Tariri Amazon Lodge

Tariri is a small, family-run lodge with detached wooden cabins linked by walkways. The atmosphere is personal and informal, with a strong connection to the place and the family operating the property.

The cabins are simple but private, with their own bathroom and hot shower, fan, screened windows and a balcony with hammock. Air conditioning, mobile coverage and stable internet are normally unavailable.

Meals are an important part of the stay and use regional ingredients, fish, fruit and local flavours. Exact room allocation and bedding are confirmed in SambaTravel’s proposal.

Easy to moderate

Physical level

Most activities take place by motorboat or canoe. The forest walk follows natural, uneven and sometimes wet trails and requires normal balance and mobility.

Heat and high humidity can make even short activities more demanding. Getting in and out of small boats and evening excursions are part of the programme.

Good to know

The order of activities may change according to weather, water level, wildlife, transfer logistics and other guests’ programmes. The final plan is set at the lodge.

Tariri is a rustic lodge with fans rather than air conditioning. Mobile coverage and internet are very limited or may be unavailable.

The lodge is remote beside Lago Acajatuba. Transfer from Manaus normally combines road and boat and may take about two and a half to three hours depending on the arrangement and conditions.

Excursions are normally shared with other guests. Private arrangements must be requested and reconfirmed.

Wild animals move freely and sightings of any particular species can never be guaranteed.

A simple forest overnight can be arranged as an optional extra. The setup, safety requirements and which lodge night it replaces must be confirmed before booking.

The programme can be booked on its own or combined with flights, a Manaus hotel and other parts of a tailor-made journey. Exact inclusions and price are stated in SambaTravel’s proposal.

Four days is the shortest stay SambaTravel normally recommends at Tariri.

Long trousers, socks and closed shoes are recommended for forest walks. Keep cameras and other electronics in a waterproof bag during boat and canoe trips.

  • Light T-shirts, shorts and breathable casual clothing
  • Long-sleeved shirt and long trousers for forest walks

  • Sun hat or cap
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
