Juma Amazon Lodge – 6 days

Uirapuru – the complete programme with tree climbing and a night in the forest

6 days / 5 nights Moderate to active Scheduled boat and road transfer from Manaus included

Uirapuru is Juma’s most complete regular programme and suits travellers who want to devote more time to active nature experiences than to the lodge itself.

The programme builds on Tucano and adds a simple night in the forest, tree climbing and tree planting. It creates a clearer sense of distance, darkness and the forest’s rhythm after normal lodge activity has quietened.

The overnight and tree climbing require greater mobility and must always be confirmed in relation to travellers’ health, weather and local safety conditions.

Day 2

Sunrise, forest walk and fishing

The day begins before breakfast with an excursion on the Juma River as daylight arrives and birdlife becomes active.

After breakfast, take a guided walk in terra firme forest. The guide explains trees, insects, animal tracks, ecological relationships and practical knowledge used in the forest.

In the afternoon, try piranha or recreational fishing. After dinner there is normally a short talk about the Amazon, the lodge or the region’s nature.

Day 3

Forest lunch, observation tower and local life

Take a longer but unhurried forest walk. Lunch is prepared over an open fire and served outdoors, followed by time to rest in a hammock.

During the day, visit a family living along the river. Conversation may cover cultivation, manioc flour, traditional plant knowledge and how everyday life adapts to changing water levels.

When programme and conditions allow, the 31-metre observation tower is also included, with views over the forest canopy and Juma River.

After breakfast, walk to a giant samaúma and return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, prepare for the overnight and review equipment and safety with the guide.

Leave the lodge on foot or by boat and set up camp in the forest. Accommodation is simple, normally in a hammock with mosquito net beneath a protective shelter. Dinner is prepared at camp.

In the evening, listen to the forest and take a short night activity at a relaxed pace. The programme may be changed or cancelled if weather or local conditions require it.

Physical level

This programme includes several forest walks, a simple night in the forest and optional tree climbing. Natural ground can be wet and slippery, and heat and humidity add to the physical demand.

Good to know

Activities may take place in a different order from the one shown here. Weather, water level, group size and wildlife movements determine the final schedule.

Forest View and River View bungalows have fans, while higher bungalow categories also have air conditioning. Hot water is solar-heated.

Juma is in a remote area. Connectivity and electrical capacity are more limited than at a city hotel.

Water levels change both views and excursions. High water gives access to flooded forest; at low water, beaches and longer stretches of dry land emerge.

Wildlife observations take place in the animals’ natural environment and cannot be guaranteed.

The programme can be booked on its own or combined with flights, a Manaus hotel and other parts of a tailor-made journey. Exact inclusions and price are stated in SambaTravel’s proposal.

The forest overnight and tree climbing depend on weather, local safety conditions and the participant’s health and mobility. They must be reconfirmed before travel.
