Samaúma – the lodge’s most extensive programme with the possibility of a forest camp

6 days / 5 nights Moderate Combined road and boat transfer from Manaus included
Send enquiry

Samaúma gives the most time in the Mamorí area and suits travellers who want the forest to be a main part of the journey rather than a short stop from Manaus.

The programme includes the lodge’s core excursions and an extra day to look for wildlife on the water and reach more remote parts of the area. A simple night in a forest camp may form part of the experience.

The forest camp is rustic and must be confirmed separately before booking. The final arrangement depends on weather, water level and the travellers’ circumstances.

Day by day

Day 1

Manaus, Encontro das Águas and the journey to Mamorí

You are collected in Manaus and travel to Ceasa harbour. By fast boat you pass Encontro das Águas, where the dark Rio Negro meets the lighter Solimões without immediately mixing.

After a market stop and road transfer through Careiro, continue by boat through lakes and smaller channels to Amazon Premium Lodge. Arrival is around lunchtime, followed by check-in and lunch.

In the afternoon, take a first boat excursion introducing the waterways, birdlife and surrounding landscape. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2

Sunrise, forest walk and nocturnal wildlife

The day begins early with a boat outing at first light, when birdlife is particularly active and temperatures are still comfortable.

After breakfast, take a guided forest walk. The guide explains trees, insects, ecological relationships and traditional plant knowledge. After lunch there is time to rest.

In the afternoon, try piranha or nature fishing. After dinner, an evening excursion searches for caimans and other nocturnal wildlife.

Day 3

Life along the rivers

Visit a riverside family and gain an insight into cultivation, fishing and manioc-flour production. The visit is an encounter based on conversation and local knowledge, not a performance.

After lunch, the programme continues by canoe, with swimming or further nature exploration depending on water level and the lodge’s planning. The afternoon also leaves time to enjoy the lodge surroundings.

Dinner and overnight at Amazon Premium Lodge.

Day 4

Rubber trees and forest plants

After breakfast, take another forest walk focused on plants and trees that have long been important to people in the Amazon. The guide shows, among other species, seringueira and explains how latex can be tapped without felling the tree.

Discussion of traditional plant use is cultural and natural history, not medical advice.

After lunch there is time to relax or join an activity planned by the lodge according to weather, water level and the group’s interests. Some optional extras may carry an additional cost.

Day 5

During the day there may also be a visit to a school or riverside community when conditions and local arrangements permit.

The Samaúma programme may include a simple night in a forest camp with hammock and mosquito net. Exact operation, safety arrangements and the alternative of sleeping at the lodge must be confirmed at booking.

Physical level

The regular lodge activities are easy to moderate. If a night in a forest camp is included, it means simpler accommodation, longer periods outdoors and more transfers in and out of small boats.

Good to know

The day-by-day programme may be adjusted in response to the weather, water levels, wildlife and practical considerations. The final order of activities is confirmed at the lodge.

Water levels change the landscape markedly through the year. At high water, boats and canoes can travel far into flooded igapó forest; at low water, beaches and more fixed trails emerge.

Wildlife moves freely and sightings of any particular species can never be guaranteed.

The transfer has several stages by car, fast boat, road and local boat. Encontro das Águas and market environments form part of the journey, but stops can be adjusted to logistics and opening hours.

The programme can be booked separately or combined with flights, a Manaus hotel and other parts of a tailor-made journey. Exact inclusions and price are stated in the SambaTravel proposal.

The forest camp is an option within the lodge’s Samaúma programme. SambaTravel always confirms whether it is included, how it operates and what alternative is available for travellers who prefer to sleep at the lodge.
