Introduktion

With a wide range of exposure to native culture and wildlife attractions, this tour offers climbing the giant trees, swimming with the pink river dolphins, visiting the Tuiuka Indians, Parasailing, and navigation through black and muddy water ecosystems from Rio Solimoes to the heart of Anavilhanas in Rio Negro.

One of the largest river archipelago in the world - Anavilhanas, is the main attraction of the lower Rio Negro, a protected region blessed by nature.
The Upper Amazon, particularly the region of Rio Negro, where the Anavilhanas archipelago and the city of New Airao are located, is an ideal region for ecotourism.

Unlike other regions of the Amazon, the Rio Negro has almost no mosquitos due to the natural insecticide found in its waters. Furthermore, this is the Amazon’s most wild and preserved portion.

Dagsprogram - Dag 1

Boarding at 09:00 in the morning at the Tropical Pier in Manaus. While we leave the shores of the large Amazon river we will do a quick Amazonian briefing regarding the animals we expect to encounter, the plants we will see and the structure of the river basins. We will also talk about local customs and study the route maps for our coming days. You will receive the booklet “Ecotourism in Anavilhanas” and customized maps.

Our first stop will be at the lake Lago Janauary, which has a rich Amazon ecosystem full of birds, reptiles, exotic plants and giant trees fed by the waters of the river Rio Solimoes, abundant in living and organic nutrients. We enter the lake with canoes in order to get close to the sights, sounds and smells of this area.

On this canoe ride we expect to see:

- River Dolphins of the species Tucuxi River Dolphins (Sotalia Fluviatilis) and Pink River Dolphin (Inia Geoffrensis)

- Birds of the region, like Maguari Stork (Ciconia maguari), Great Egret (Casmerodius Albus), Blue-Yellow Macaw (Ara Ararauna), Festive Parrot (Amazona Festiva), Rufescent Tiger-herons (Tigrisoma Lineatum), Yellow-rumped Caciques (Cacicus Cela), Crested Oropendola (Psarocolius Decumanus) and Jacamars (Galbulidae) and many others.

- The giant water lily Vitoria Regia (Victoria Amazonica)

From Lago Janauary we continue to the Rio Solimoes and it is time for lunch on board.

After lunch we arrive at one of nature’s greatest spectacles called "the meeting of the rivers", where the great rivers of Rio Negro and the Rio Solimoes meets and floats side by side for more than nine kilometers. The two waters have different colors and temperature and does not mix immediately thus forming this spectacular sight.

We continue our journey up the Rio Negro towards the Anavilhanas Archipelago taking in the sights of this mighty river.

Dinner is served on board and navigation continues during the night.

Dagsprogram - Dag 2

Our day starts at the shores of Tupe Beach where there is a settlement of natives from the region Alto Rio Negro. After our breakfast on board the ship we descend to the village where we will have the opportunity to see a presentation of their traditional and well-preserved customs, dances, some history and local arts and crafts. After the presentation there will be a cultural exchange in their local languages Tuiuka and Tukano.

Lunch on board the ship.

In the afternoon we navigate up the river Rio Ariau, a beautiful black water stream with characteristic vegetation, and interesting attractions like giant trees. Here you will have the optional activity of tree climbing which is paid at location (not included in the price of the cruise).

After Rio Ariau we enter the lake Lago Acajatuba, where we will see the famous pink river dolphin. Those who want can swim and interact with the dolphins.

Here we will also meet the big fish Pirarucu with the nick name "Lion of Amazonia". This is the world's largest scaled freshwater fish and it can reach a length of three meters.

We have a nice dinner on board in order to recharge for an exciting night tour. We will go out in the dark trying to spot alligators and other nocturnal animals.

Dagsprogram - Dag 3
We wake up in in the heart of the second largest floating archipelago in the world to the sound of the "igapos" which means flooded forests of Amazonia.

After breakfast we will enter these aquatic trails between the trees to experience this magical area of the rain forest. Under the shadows of the enormous leaves of the great Macacarecuia-trees we enter hidden world. Here we will swim with inflatable tubes in the waters to feel and experience the flooded forest and quietly integrate with its sounds and inhabitants.

Before lunch it is time to fish for piranhas in the waters called Igarapé Jaraqui.

After lunch we will arrive at the "Sitio Caboclo" of Mr. Manuel which is an orchard of regional fruit. We will also see how to prepare the poisonous Cassava root in order to make eatable flour for baking.

From here we start a trekking tour on the mainland through a wonderful part of the rain forest in order to see the fauna and flora of the mainland.

Here we make an overnight camp in the jungle. We set up hammocks to sleep and gather round a camp fire, talking, telling stories from the local folklore and listen to the Amazonian night. This is an optional activity included in the price, but for those who prefers to sleep on the boat it is of course possible.

Dagsprogram - Dag 4
We wake up in our camp in the forest to the sounds of the birds and have a regional breakfast before we start our return hike through the forest. In this region monkeys are very common, especially the endangered Squirrel Monkey, so we will try to spot them on our way through the forest as well as other species.

We will make a stop at the Tiririca Community to see how a typical riverside community looks like in the amazon with the special adaptations needed to cope with the seasonal rising water levels.

We arrive in the small town of Novo Airao where we do a city tour visiting the Arts and Crafts workshops, city sights and attractions of the town.

We will take a farewell lunch together at the floating restaurant Flor do Luar.
